Lone Survivor Marcus Luttrell Joining King’s Pheasant Hunt

Akron, Iowa – Former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell will join Congressman Steve King’s annual Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt this weekend, planning to join in hunting activities on Saturday. In 2005, Luttrell and SEAL Team 10 were given the mission, Operation Redwing, to kill or capture Ahmad Shah, a high-ranking Taliban leader responsible for killings in eastern Afghanistan and the Hindu-Kush mountains. He was the only survivor of the battle related to their mission. He was wounded but evaded capture and was given shelter by an Afghan tribe. Luttrell was rescued by American forces six days later.

“It is an honor to have Marcus Luttrell join us this weekend,” King remarked. “Like Col. Day, Marcus is an American hero and patriot. We look forward to introducing him to Iowa pheasant hunting and the good citizens who will be joining us.”

King’s Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt is held at the Hole N’ the Wall Lodge near Akron, Iowa. Hunting activities will take place both Saturday and Sunday. Senator Charles Grassley will be King’s special guest for breakfast on Sunday morning, beginning at 7:30 am.

The Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt celebrates the legacy of one of America’s greatest military heroes. Col. Day himself participated in the hunt during its early years, taking part in an activity he greatly enjoyed near his northwest Iowa hometown.

Hunting activities will take place Saturday and Sunday. Senator Charles Grassley will be King’s special guest for breakfast on Sunday morning, beginning at 7:30 am.

We are both on the ballot next month and I appreciate the opportunity for him to spend time with fellow hunters.”

The Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt has regularly attracted national leaders who attend for the opportunity to hunt as well as interact with King’s supporters. “This event combines my passion for hunting with politics,” King remarked. “My guests and I have interacted with national political leaders in a unique setting. Having Senator Grassley with us with just a few days before the General Election is a great opportunity for the same conversations.”

Col. Day, a Sioux City native, was the nation’s most decorated war hero at the time of his death in 2013. King Named US 20 Association Hero

Wall Lake, Iowa – Congressman Steve King was named a US 20 Corridor Association Hero today.

In their release, the US 20 Corridor Association wrote, “No one person can claim responsibility for the highly anticipated completion of statewide four-lane US 20.” And Association President Shirley Phillips said, “As an Association, we have worked with hundreds of people in the effort to achieve our goal. It is only due to persistence, passion, and undeniable need we were able to see statewide four-lane US 20 scheduled for completion.”

King has been a strong advocate for statewide four-lane US 20 for more than 20 years. As a State Senator, King promoted and helped secure passage of Commercial Industrial Network(CIN) legislation which directed the Iowa Department of Transportation to prioritize four-lane highways connecting US 20 cities. As a Member of Congress, King secured millions of dollars in earmarks. One earmark in particular, which was specifically for environmental, archaeological, and engineering expenses for a four-lane US 20 only to be spent west of US 71, became a significant lynchpin for accelerated completion. Because of King’s foresight, the preparation work was finished in advance “paving the way for the grading and paving” of the final 40 miles of the 301 mile multigenerational project on an accelerated timeframe.

“I look forward to the day in 2018 when we cut the ribbon on the last segment of a complete statewide four-lane US 20. It is an honor to work with fellow US 20 Association Heroes. I remember fondly those on the Honor Roll who never gave up but didn’t live to see this through to the end,” King stated. “Iowa has long needed a second four-lane east-west corridor. I’m happy to be part of each milestone achieved over the last 20 years.”

In addition to the US 20 Association honor, King enjoys the support of Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey, Senator Chuck Grassley, Senator Joni Ernst, Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds, Speaker Linda Upmeyer, as well as the majority of Iowa legislators serving in the 4th Congressional District. King earlier received U.S. Chamber, NFIB SAFE Trust, and FRC Action endorsements and the Iowa Farm Bureau Friend of Agriculture designation, also.

King serves on the US House Agriculture, Judiciary, and Small Business Committees. In 2015, he was named Chairman of the Executive Overreach Task Force by Speaker Paul Ryan. King has long chaired the Conservative Opportunity Society (COS), an organization founded by Speaker Newt Gingrich and others in 1983. COS is the leading voice for Constitutional and conservative principles in the U.S. House and represents one of only a half dozen seats at Speaker Ryan’s discussion table each week.

Congressman King is the founder of King Construction. A former small business owner, King resides in rural Sac County, Iowa, with his wife of 43 years, Marilyn. The Kings have three happily married sons and seven grandchildren; all the Kings live within 10 miles of each other.

The Representatives are Speaker Linda Upmeyer, Rob Bacon, Terry Baxter, Brian Best, Tedd Gassman, Pat Grassley, Steve Holt, John Kooiker, Mike Sexton, John Wills, Matt Windschitl, and Gary Worthan.

“To have the endorsement of these excellent legislators, in addition to the State Senators who’ve voiced their support of my re-election, is significant,” King remarked. “We have serious issues facing us at the state level and nationally; I know I can rely on these representatives to protect, defend, and advocate for Iowa values we share – respect for life, traditional marriage and family, 2nd Amendment rights, and fiscal responsibility. I do the same in Congress and look forward to the honor of doing so again.”

King Receives Farm Bureau Friend of Agriculture Designation

Wall Lake, Iowa – Congressman Steve King today received Iowa Farm Bureau’s Friend of Agriculture designation in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District primary race.

In their announcement on the designation, the Iowa Farm Bureau Political Action Committee said King was selected based on his support of Farm Bureau policies, voting record, and support of Iowa’s farm families and rural communities.

“Congressman King has a proven pro-agriculture voting record over his 14 years in Congress,” said Audubon County farmer and IFBF PAC Chair, Randy Dreher. “He has consistently voted for key Farm Bureau priorities such as expanded trade and favorable tax policies, and is a dependable vote in support of many renewable fuels initiatives including a robust Renewable Fuels Standard and biofuels tax incentives which are critical to expanding Iowa’s economy.”

King appreciates the continued support of Iowa Farm Bureau. “I have always identified myself as an agribusinessman, someone who understands and values the rural way of life, farmers, and those who feed the world from Iowa’s rich, fertile farmland and are dedicated to adding value as close to the corn stalk and bean stem as possible, as many times as possible,” he remarked. “Agriculture is the backbone of Iowa’s economy and those who are involved in this industry are hard-working, smart, and productive citizens.”

In addition to the Farm Bureau Friend of Agriculture designation, King enjoys the support and endorsement of Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey, Senator Chuck Grassley, Senator Joni Ernst, Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds, and Iowa House Speaker Linda Upmeyer.
